About Jim--Have van, will travel

Dynamic performer, accomplished Musician,
Singer, Songwriter, Actor, and Entertainer
Jim Barnes is a true wonder.

Jim has strong background in theatre and has appeared with various community theatre groups such as Ann White’s Northwood Theater Workshop and Strafford (NH) Lakeside Players, performing as Ebenezer Scrooge in both the dramatic and musical versions of the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, “the best Scrooge EVER”, says Don from Gilmanton, Det. Sgt. Trotter in Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap and as Grandpa Vanderhof in the Hart and Kaufman comedy, You Can’t Take it With You to mention just a few. Additionally, Jim has appeared in Summer Theatre at the Rochester (NH) Opera House, in The Sound of Music and South Pacific, and he has also performed in dinner theatre with the Governor’s Inn and with Get a Clue Productions, appearing locally and traveling as far as the Catskills, in New York, to perform with that group.

A performer for more than forty years, Jim knows how to reach and engage his audience.   "He really knows how to tell a joke,” says fan Bob. His musical styles of choice are American Folk Music and Traditional Irish. His instruments of choice are the Five String Banjo and Acoustic Guitar, as well as a touch of mandolin.

Jim h
as written many historically accurate folk songs , which makes him a good fit for a high school history or civics lesson, an evening with the local Historical Society or community Library group. Story songs such as The Ballad of Grace Metalious, Live Free or Die and The Portsmouth Whaler tell New Hampshire's rich history in a melodic, tuneful way.
